Blastocyst

Maximizing Chance of Pregnancy, Minimizing Chance of Multiple-births

Couples come to a fertility treatment center to maximize their chances of getting pregnant, and the blastocyst procedure goes a long way in accomplishing this all-important goal for couples. Because approximately 50% of the 2-3 day old embryos are chromosomally abnormal, they are cultured for an additional 2-3 days (up to 5 days), so they can grow more chromosomally normal in the blastocyst phase. Embryos in this stage are much more likely to result in pregnancy than those aged just 3 days.

This means we can transfer fewer embryos, which is especially beneficial for females over 35 years old. By transferring fewer, more well-developed embryos, we can effectively reduce the chance of multiple births. Data suggests that just two blastocysts provide more chances of pregnancy than an insemination procedure transferring 3 or more younger embryos. Additionally, for women under 35, two blastocysts involving 5-day-old embryos delivered a higher pregnancy probability than the transfer of two 3-day-old embryos.

Arizona Center for Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility is a cutting-edge reproductive health clinic that offers couples the latest, most effective fertility solutions. A blastocyst is one of the solutions through which we not only bring hope to couples with fertility issues but also help them to reduce the chances of multiple failed fertility treatment cycles.

Solution for Women with Multiple Failed Cycles

Under natural circumstances, there is a 5-day delay (after fertilization) in the entry of the fertilized eggs into the uterus. Blastocysts can help women who have had multiple failed cycles; as the uterus is more accessible and has fewer contractions in 5 days, it has a higher chance of accepting the blastocysts.

Single-Embryo Transfer – No Twins

Another great advantage of the blastocyst procedure is that it allows the transfer of a single embryo. This is an advantage because it significantly reduces the probability of conceiving twins, which are inherently riskier, especially in the case of a misshapen uterus. Arizona Center for Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility offers this single-embryo transfer to couples looking to steer clear of the chance of having multiple births.
