When couples come into the Arizona Center for Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility for the first time, they have several questions about in vitro fertilization (IVF)—the first of which regards the cost. The truth of the matter is that IVF cost in Arizona can often be pricey, but at AZCREI we do everything in our power to ensure the procedure is reasonable for our patients.

We never want the cost of treating infertility to prevent a couple from starting a family and having a baby. That’s why we offer competitive pricing as well as reliable cost estimates, based on your unique recommended treatment plan, to help you make an informed decision. Here are three ways our center helps make the cost of IVF treatments something you can afford.

1. Utilizing Insurance Coverage

Before you even come in for your first appointment, we’ll ask you a few questions about your insurance so we can have a list of your benefits ready for you when you meet with Dr. Gelety. We want you to fully understand your insurance coverage and have an idea of what costs to expect before starting treatments.

Coverage varies greatly between insurance providers. Many times patients’ insurance will just cover their initial evaluation and the treatments for the underlying medical causes of infertility, but not any procedures (such as IVF). When a patient does have infertility benefits, we’ll check to see if they need to enroll in a program and what their insurance covers specifically.

Regardless of benefits, we never want our patients to be in the dark about potential costs and will make sure they have at least an estimate of what they can expect the cost of IVF to be.

2. Testing and Treating Only As Needed

Many patients who visit us after having difficulty getting pregnant come with the notion that they need IVF to have a baby. For some of these patients, that is the case. But we never assume or jump straight into IVF treatment.

At AZCREI, we start with the most basic tests—which are often covered by insurance—to determine the cause of infertility. We treat accordingly and will move on to the next round of tests and procedures only when necessary. This allows us to keep general costs down, while often working within a patient’s insurance benefits. And if it does come down to IVF treatments, we have a better idea of what is causing the infertility and have a better chance of success. In fact, two out of three patients will get pregnant on the very first attempt.

3. Mitigating Other Costs

Sometimes we exhaust all insurance benefits, and our patients do have to pay some portion of IVF out of pocket. We keep our prices very reasonable and work with you to mitigate any outside costs, like medication or sperm and egg donations, when those are necessary.

For instance, our nurses will go above and beyond to help you find the most cost-effective hormones and medications needed for the IVF treatment. Competing clinics often require patients to purchase the medication through the clinic, driving up the total price of the procedures. We, on the other hand, try to help our patients mitigate the costs by recommending alternative places to buy the medication, bringing down the total amount they’d have to spend on the procedure.

We also offer discounted IVF packages and in-house payment plans to make the costs of procedures less of a financial burden.
